How Tessera Trades

A trend-following EA that opens a single position, long or short, when the Ichimoku Tenkan line crosses the Kijun line on USD/JPY H1, then manages it with a fixed 140-pip target, a 70-pip stop and a break-even move at 42 pips.

When it trades

USD/JPY, Any Hour

There is no session filter and no time window. Every closed H1 bar is checked, around the clock, five days a week, so the EA behaves the same on any broker's server clock.

Tenkan Crosses Kijun

The Tenkan-sen (11) must close one bar on one side of the Kijun-sen (26) and the next bar on the other side. Both lines are read one closed bar back, so the signal cannot repaint.

Only these two Ichimoku lines are used. The cloud is not part of the rule.

One Position, Either Direction

An upward cross opens a buy, a downward cross opens a sell — always a single position at a fixed lot. A new signal while a position is open is ignored, so the EA never stacks or hedges.

Fixed 70-Pip Stop

A 70-pip stop-loss is attached to the order when it is sent — half the size of the target. Until the break-even trigger fires, that stop is the whole of the risk control.

05 Exit

How it exits

140-Pip Target Or Break-Even

The position closes at the 140-pip take-profit or the stop. Once the trade is 42 pips ahead, the stop moves to one pip past entry, so trades that reach that point can no longer close at a full loss.

Frequently asked questions

Is Tessera a martingale or grid EA?
No. It opens one position at a time with a fixed lot, a fixed 70-pip stop and a fixed 140-pip target. There is no averaging down, no grid, no recovery trade and no lot progression of any kind.
How was it tested?
On Exness MT5 USD/JPY history in the MetaTrader 5 strategy tester, on the "every tick" model generated from M1 bars, from 2019-01-01 to 2026-08-08 with 0.1 lot on a $10,000 balance. The tester reported the history quality of that run as 100%. The published backtest is the part of that run that ends at the 2026-04-01 cutoff; what the same build did after that date is shown separately as the verification window, so the two never share a trade. Every closed trade is published on this page and downloadable as CSV.
Does the backtest include swap?
Yes. The per-deal swap from the broker's contract specification is included in the published profit figures, and the trade ledger carries it per trade. Positions are typically held overnight — the median hold is about a day — so swap is a real part of this record.
How is Tessera different from Kestrel Hover?
They read the same two Ichimoku lines on the same pair, but they are different products. Hover trades M15, buys only, and holds for days toward a 300-pip target. Thermal trades H1 in both directions, holds for about a day, aims at 140 pips against a 70-pip stop, and protects winners with a break-even move. Measured over the same seven years, their monthly returns are essentially uncorrelated and they have never entered on the same bar.
Does it trade at particular hours?
No. There is no time or session filter. A cross on any closed hourly bar can open a trade, day or night.
Why is there no spread filter?
The shipped build enters at the market spread, whatever it is — that is how the record was measured. If your account's USD/JPY spread is materially wider than Exness's, expect the fixed pip targets to behave slightly worse than the published record.
