Wie Saltpan handelt

A composite trend EA that requires four separate conditions to line up on USD/JPY — an Ichimoku conversion/base relationship and two moving-average relationships on H1, gated by three stacked averages on H4 — and then holds one position behind a 40-pip stop with a 100-pip target.

01 Markt

USD/JPY, One Hour, No Time Filter

There is no session, day or news filter. What limits the EA is agreement between indicators, not the clock — in practice it stands aside for weeks at a time when the filters disagree.

02 Setup

Four Conditions, All At Once

On H1 the EA checks the Ichimoku conversion line against the base line (9 and 26), price against its 25-period average, and price against its 75-period average. Separately it requires the 25, 50 and 75-period averages on H4 to be stacked in order. Only when all of them agree is an entry allowed.

The H4 filter is fixed inside the build — it stays on H4 regardless of which chart the EA is attached to.

A single market order is sent on the next closed bar, at most once per bar. Unlike a long-only build this one trades both ways — 147 buys and 88 sells in the published record. If a position is already open the setup is ignored.

The stop is attached when the order is sent and never widened. It is deliberately tight — two and a half times smaller than the target — which is why the EA is stopped out so often and why the drawdown stays shallow.

The build can also close a position when its own signal flips, but in the published record that path never fired. 83 trades ended at the 100-pip target and 150 at the stop; the remaining two were weekend gaps that filled beyond the level.

Wichtige Hinweise

  • The EA refuses to start on any timeframe other than H1 — it checks the chart period in OnInit and stops with a message. The higher-timeframe filter is separately fixed to H4 inside the build and does not follow the chart.
  • There is a spread guard in this build — entries are skipped while the spread is above 50 points. With a 40-pip stop the spread matters more here than on a wider-stop EA.
  • There is no drawdown guard. Nothing halts trading after a losing run; the only protection on any single trade is its stop.

Häufig gestellte Fragen

Is Saltpan a martingale or grid EA?
No. It opens one position at a time with a fixed lot, a fixed 40-pip stop and a fixed 100-pip target. There is no averaging down, no grid, no recovery trade and no lot progression. A setup that appears while a position is open is ignored. The maximum number of positions open at the same time, measured across the whole published record, is one.
How was it tested?
On Exness MT5 USD/JPY history in the MetaTrader 5 strategy tester, on the "every tick based on real ticks" model (Model 4), from 2019-01-01 to 2026-07-01 with 0.1 lot on a $10,000 balance. The tester reported the history quality of that run as 100% real ticks over 229 million ticks. All 239 closed trades are published on this page and downloadable as CSV.
Why does it lose almost two trades out of three?
Because the stop is 40 pips and the target is 100. At that ratio it does not need to be right often — it needs the winners to be big enough, and they are. The average win was 73.62 against an average loss of -31.73. A 35% win rate is the intended shape of this EA, not a sign that something is wrong.
Does the backtest include swap?
Yes. The run recorded -152.82 of swap in total and the published net is the figure after it. All of it fell on the 90 short positions — the tested USD/JPY history carried no swap on the long side, so the 149 buys cost nothing to carry. 148 of the 239 trades stayed open across at least one night, with a median hold of about 19 hours. Your broker's rates will differ. Commission was zero in this run.
What are the four conditions?
On the hourly chart the EA reads the Ichimoku conversion line against the base line (9 and 26), price against its 25-period moving average, and price against its 75-period moving average. On top of that it requires the 25, 50 and 75-period averages on H4 to be stacked in order. All four have to agree before it will take a position, which is why it trades under three times a month.
The build has a reversal exit — how often does it fire?
Never, in this record. Every trade but two ended either at the 100-pip target (83 of them) or at the 40-pip stop (150). The remaining two were weekend gaps that filled beyond the level, at +111.4 and -68.5 pips. The reversal exit exists in the code but should not be thought of as how trades end.
The total profit looks small — why?
Because it trades rarely and risks little. 239 trades over seven and a half years came to 1,379.65 on a $10,000 account, with a maximum drawdown of -5.03%. It is one of the smaller totals in this catalogue, and that is the trade-off for the tight stop — the figure is published as measured rather than scaled up by a larger lot.
