Ricochet

A single-position EUR/USD mean-reversion EA that never trades the break itself — it waits for price to come back inside the band first.

Two closed bars decide everything. The first must close outside the 500-period Bollinger band with RSI(7) past 30 or 70; the second must close back inside the band with RSI already turning. Only then does it take one position, with a stop and a target of exactly the same size.

전략 로직

Ricochet의 매매 방식

A mean-reversion EA that trades EUR/USD in both directions on M5: it needs one closed bar outside the 500-period Bollinger band with RSI(7) past its extreme, then a second closed bar back inside the band with RSI already turning, and holds a single position with a fixed 52-pip stop and a 52-pip target.

01 시장

언제 매매하는가

EUR/USD, No Time Filter

There is no session, hour or day filter. The EA looks at every closed M5 bar around the clock and acts whenever the band-and-RSI sequence completes, which is why activity clusters in volatile weeks and disappears in quiet ones.

02 셋업

무엇을 찾는가

Out Of The Band, Then Back In

The bar two back must close outside the 500-period band — below the lower line for a long, above the upper for a short — with RSI(7) past 30 or 70 on that same bar. The bar one back must then close back inside the band with RSI already turning away from the extreme, and on the correct side of the centre line.

Both bars are read after they close, so the sequence cannot repaint. The move must already have reversed before anything is sent.

03 진입

어떻게 진입하는가

One Position, Either Way

A single market order goes in on the bar after the sequence completes — a buy at the ask if the band was broken downward, a sell at the bid if it was broken upward. While that position is open no new one is taken, in either direction.

The stop is attached at the moment the order is sent and is never moved afterwards. There is no trailing stop and no break-even step, so every losing trade costs the same distance and the exposure never grows.

  • The EA refuses to start on any timeframe other than M5 — it checks the chart period in OnInit and stops with a message. The 500-bar band is defined on that timeframe, so another chart period would be a different strategy.
  • There is no spread filter in this build. On an account whose EUR/USD spread is routinely wider than the one carried by the tested history, entries will be worse than the record.

자주 묻는 질문

Is Ricochet a martingale or grid EA?
No. It opens one position at a time with a fixed lot, a fixed 52-pip stop and a fixed 52-pip target. There is no averaging down, no grid, no recovery trade and no lot progression of any kind. A new setup is ignored while a position is open.
How was it tested?
On EUR/USD tick history in the MetaTrader 5 strategy tester, on the "every tick based on real ticks" model, from 2019-01-01 with 0.1 lot on a $10,000 balance. The tester reported the history quality of that run as 100%. The published backtest is the part that ends at the 2026-04-01 cutoff; what the same build did after that date was measured separately and is shown as the verification window, so the two never share a trade. Every closed trade is published on this page and downloadable as CSV.
Does the backtest include swap?
Yes. Swap was charged on this run and is already inside the published profit figures — 336.40 USD in total, spread over the deals that were held overnight. The average position was held about a day and a half, so carry is a real part of this record rather than a rounding error. The per-deal values are in the downloadable ledger.
Why is the target the same size as the stop?
Because the edge is meant to come from frequency, not from payoff. A 52-pip target against a 52-pip stop means the record only works while the EA is right more often than it is wrong, which is exactly what the published win rate is there to show. It also means one loss cancels one win, so a losing streak is felt immediately rather than hidden behind a large average winner.
Does it trade both directions?
Yes, and the rule is mirrored exactly. A close below the lower band with RSI under 30, followed by a close back inside it, opens a buy; a close above the upper band with RSI over 70, followed by a close back inside, opens a sell. Only one of them can be open at a time.
Why does it sometimes do nothing for weeks?
The full sequence has to complete — one closed bar outside the band with RSI past its extreme, then the next closed bar back inside with RSI turning, on the right side of the centre line. In calm stretches price never reaches the band, and in strong trends it goes outside and stays there. Both of those are the filter working rather than the EA failing.
Does it have a spread filter?
No, and that is a deliberate limitation of this build rather than an oversight. Entries are taken whatever the spread is at that moment, so rollover and news spikes are paid in full. On a broker whose EUR/USD spread is much wider than the tested history, expect the live result to sit below the published one.
